Someone had to start this; might as well be me!

As someone who flies to fest and (not surprisingly) doesn't want to pay $30 for a beach chair carry-on, I'm on the hunt for something I can pack. I saw this on the Dick's Sporting Goods site http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/produ ... d=11062726 and it looked pretty good. Anyone have one? Do you like it?

For comfort I would look for one like similar but with higher back. I use to use one that had a pocket on the back. Also the sides would zipup so you could use it to carry stuff when not sitting. I found it at target for around $15.

Went to Dick's in KC this weekend and Red picked up a perfect little chair for playing guitar. The back is high and padded and the seat is triangular, it has a strap for carrying. It is too high for night stage but perfect for the site and playing with friends. She even flirted with the check out girl and got ten bucks knocked off!!

I do have a question though, so at night stage no high chairs, meaning like the folding ones. But what about where you eat? I thought you brought your own chair but is there tables or just picnic style? If so, then you really wouldn't need anything more than one of these compact ones, right?

The only place with tables for eating at is at the DART tent, so yeah picnic style (sitting on the ground) is it. There are a few bales of hay around for sitting but not many.

You found the style of chair I was talking about. I like that they form to your body, give back support and you can rock back n forth in them. The one I have even zips on the sides and has a pocket in the back so you can use as a backpack. I find them more comfortable than the sandchairs plus you can unhook the sides and use as a mat if you nap attack.

The first year I bought a regular sand chair at the concession but it was trash by the end of the week.

Karie - I think the high chair refers to seat height off ground. I think I read once around 6". for meals I stash a standard height chair with someone who camps closer to the kitchen than I do.

AK- I like the Everywhere Chair too, but don't like having to get up and out of it. However, it remains my favorite.

I think the 6 inch height limit refers to the height off the ground. As some one who uses a CrazyCreek chair ( http://www.rei.com/product/812634), I get REALLLY cranky about the womyn who bring chairs that have low seats but really high backs. Such chairs go against the spirit of "everyone has low chairs so everyone can see at concerts."

If you sit in back of the concert area's you can use a full sized chair. If you are a DART camper you can use a full sized chair in the DART seating area.

I'm with you, seakayakwitchdyke. There's no buzz-kill like settling in at Night Stage, on the tarp you stood line for HOURS to put down right in front, and have a bunch of people with tall-back chairs park themselves in front of you...

I have one of these little fabric camp chairs... only the one I bought had a reinforcing structure inside too:

The reinforcement is nice for back support (such as it can be in these chairs), but kind of defeated my original purpose of having something extremely portable and compactable (I like to be able to compact all michfest gear to a hiking pack and side attachments).

In general, I'd say this style of chair is conveniently light and packable, but don't expect to be comfortable in it for long durations.... they really are hard on the back (and I'm only 31, so I shouldn't be complaining too much about back pain yet!!). Nonetheless, they'll get you through night stage and keep you off the damp ground as long as you plan to do a little dancing to stretch too!
