It's that porous quality that makes charcoal so useful, enabling it to absorb moisture, odor and dirt. Activated charcoal is the most porous of all, since it's been processed for maximum surface area. Charcoal's a natural dehumidifier, helping remove excess moisture from damp areas. i have just shared in a bag of briquets.

I bring 2 empty gallon jugs (for water). I also bring my camping head lamp. (You know, the kind that comes with an elastic band that you wear on your head - VERY helpful in the portajanes at night when you don't have a free hand to hold a flashlight!)
At night in my tent, I put the elastic of this head lamp around a jug full of water, with the light facing towards the inside of the jug. The "lamp" gives off a nice glow and isn't too bright.

nikwax cotton proofing. buy a bottle, wash a few pants on in it and your rain jacket, and then you have magically rainproofed your clothing. easy and a lot cheaper then buying rain gear/new rain gear.

I was just reading and this thought occurred to me.
Every year I bring a "pee bucket" so I don't have to leave the tent to the Janes. Usually, I take the bucket with me in the morning and go dump it. I've also tried using kitty litter.
I think this year I may try the gallon zip lock bags with some kitty litter in it and make a removable bag to take out each morning.
Gallon zip lock bags! The second best item at Fest, after Duct Tape!

i always pack my clothes (and anything else that shouldn't get soaked the first day) in waterproof bags or those compression sacks. takes up a lot less room and if it rains, you don't have to worry about a wet sleeping bag or wet clothes. plus there is more room for fun stuff. http://www.rei.com/product/739705/eagle ... ession-set

My quirky tip: I had a whole heap of used/broken/useless CDs and DVDs lying around. I Gorilla-glued them together with the printed sides in and the glossy, reflective sides out. They catch the light really well, especially at night, so they are my new tent markers, strung on fishing wire. Easy, light and thin to pack, costs = $0.00. My kind of tent bling.

Another tip: I close up my sleeping bag whenever I go to the janes, and when I get up in the morning. For some reason, it seems like the damp gets in it if I leave it exposed to the air.
