You're invited! Very relevant to Mfest....and let's rev up the energy together in California before heading out there!
Hi, I'm Eva. I've lived in three different intentional communities,
sharing resources and energy for eco-aware projects. I'm inviting friends
and folks who are interested to come talk about the
Women's/Wimmin's/Womyn's Lands movements.
We're gathering for an informal discussion group this Sunday, July 28th at
5:00pm at the rose gardens in Oakland (700 Jean St).
It's easy. Come as yourself, open to new ideas, ready for respectful
communication about feminisms.
Bring your experiences and insights... or come as an interested
observer--not someone who identifies with this culture but who is curious
and interested in learning about new things.
Although Women's Land history has been predominantly lesbian, non-gay
friends are definitely invited to this discussion group. This event is
Women's/Womyn's Lands came out of lesbian separatism about 30 years ago.
Today, there are 75 lands listed around the world in the Shewolf
directory. The theme of this meetup is building bridges: past, present,
What we'll be talking about: Intentional communities and patriarchy. Why
is *separatism* a scary word? In what ways have women's lands been
problematic in the past? What innovations could inspire new folks to join
and re-create this kind of movement today? What about friends who want to
be involved, and happen to have a male partner? What is the value in
living full time on wimmin's land--farming, running cooperative
businesses, making consensus based decisions, learning construction
skills, or, or...? What is the value of visiting these lands just for a
weekend, while knowing it's not right for you full time? What about moving
to one as a longterm commitment, through retirement?
If you RSVP, you'll receive a confirmation email, directions, and articles
to prepare for the event.
Invite a friend! Forward this message. Ask the women and woman-identified
people in your life to check it out. No hetero cis-men please.
