Hi, we are wondering if people could share their experiences and insights as to what we can expect about Gaia daycare? We hope to do workshifts at Gaia as our granddaughter will be involved in the camp. How big is the camp, what activities do the girls do and how involved can we be with our granddaughter at the camp, can we volunteer for extra shifts? How much rehearsal is required for the parade, etc....

gg,
look for other threads related to Gaia. . .there are several on this discussion forum. I don't have direct experience with Gaia, but my sense is that you can spend as much time with your granddaughter as you and she wants. The physical space is not large, but includes space for playing in the woods, a swing from trees, indoor crafty/reading type space, etc. A lot depends on how old your granddaughter is. Older girls can be "roamers" and come and go from Gaia on their own.
You can also call the office and ask them your questions. . .
I think preparing for the parade is something that some girls spend a lot of time on in terms of creating costumes and such. I don't know that there is a lot of rehearsal. . .it's a bunch of girls and adults in costumes walking along the dirt road with many festies cheering and waving. They sing a simple song and their are drummers and stilters who walk with them. . .
Have fun!

Gaia Girls camp runs all day, with a break for dinner, then opens again for night stage. you do need to pick up your girl for lunch at some point. There are three big tents, the front desk tent (office/entrance) the craft tent and the dress up tent. Plus a smaller sleep tent. There is a large play area, with lots of hula hoops, and a stage. There is a climbing tree.
Girls can 'wander' with permission from their people. At the entrance there is a large board with the girl's photo on it with her people and her name, and a tag underneath that read 'here' on one side, and 'there' on the other. Girls can 'wander' if they have permission and a red W with a circle on their photo. The can wander alone, or only with another girl (a good idea for new wanderers).
There are some workshops that happen at Gaia, and in the past there has been a treasure hunt, and a talent show. Every night there is popcorn around the campfire!! You can do your workshift at Gaia. and extra workshifts are always welcome!
Your girl might want to bring a day bag. Just make sure that EVERYTHING has her name on it!!

My daughter is 12, Her name is Elin and she is tall and blond, it will be her 13 fest! Feel free to ask her any questions. She loves Gaia!! and would like to add that the 'wander' treasure hunt is much better than the non wanderer treasure hunt. We camp on top of Sprouts hill, right next to Gaia, under the big tree!!
Look forward to meeting you and your family!!
