I flew down to LA last week for a follow-up with my surgeon. I spent way too much time and money to find out nothing new!
Worker’s comp is still denying PT, so my understanding is that I'll be limping into 2010.
After which, my Doc will give worker's comp his final report.
Worker's comp will then try to calculate a disability % and try to "settle" with me. I’m frustrated and feel powerless.

Anyone else have experience with worker's comp and disability prognoses?

I had a workman's comp claim about 14 years ago, compressed vertebrae in my upper back due to a car accident while working. When the doctor gave the final report, she determined the disability %. Then the insurance company added up the $ for medical, missing work, etc and gave me a settlement amount. The one thing I didn't do was keep going back to the doctor every year to keep the claim open for future problems (look into this), I have since had problems my upper back and I could have had workman's comp paying for part of this instead of my insurance (with the deductables).

Good luck.
Sandy

My employer laid me off! So now when the Doc releases me to work, I can file an Unemployment claim until I find a new job.
However, if that's past June, I will be short on quarters thus collecting less UI.

If I’m released with restrictions, then I will collect State Disability, until my knee is better and/or I am retrained to do something else.
I have 3 PT sessions remaining. I am trying to take it one day at a time and focus on strengthening my knee, but it is challenging!

Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Is it what you wanted?

Sorry you're still struggling with rehab! :(

Robin, is it looking like you will be recovered enough to get around easily for the 35th?

I'm trying to recover from a knee injury of my own fast enough to make it, but have concerns. I'm not sure if registering for DART would help. On one previous anniversary year, I had a back injury right before Fest and was (barely) walking with a cane. While I was able to get into DART that year, I had trouble with DART shuttles passing me by and getting assistance when I needed it because I wasn't in a chair or as visibly in need of assistance.

Now I am walking mostly with a cane (still have to resort to a walker to carry things), but my ability to stay on my feet for any length of time is still nil. I'm wondering (aside from working to heal as fast as I can) what would make the Festival more doable for a one-kneed woman. Have you given any thought to how you'll accomodate problems if you aren't fully functional by Fest?

Hi Shadows,

I WILL be able to attend FEST this year, but at what level of mobility remains to be seen.
B/C I have spent quite a bit of time in and around Downtown DART and missed Fest last year, I am positive that I would be happier staying in DART the entire time, if need be, verses NOT attending at all!

I attended Fest in 2008, but was scheduled for surgery upon my return. I was in pain and experiencing mobility issues.
Although I wasn’t “registered” for DART, I used DART shuttle services without any problems. I have registered THIS year.

At this point, my biggest concern is being able to participate in The Butch Strut…

Speedy recovery to you!
Robin

Hey Robin,
I am glad you will be able to attend this year. On the butch strut, try joining at the top of the hill, strut the flat, being in the last part is better than not being able to strut at all.

It is questionable if I will be able to attend this year, I just had back surgery #4 just over 2 weeks ago. I have missed the last 2 years. Travelling will be my biggest obstacle, I know once there, staying in DART, I would be ok, just don't know if I can drive 16 hours (would take me even longer having to stop more often).

Happy healing....

Great idea! I sure hope your healing is quick and easy, so you can make it to Fest THIS year!
